Q & A
Previous Q & A
Q:Hi,
Thanks for the quick answer.
I am considering buying your plan instead using the builder's stock plan. I inquired about putting the air handler on the garage trusses. He said it would cost more and decrease the efficiency and therefore raise the cost for a/c, but didn't explain why or the order of magnitude.
Can you tell me he is correct?
Steve Gawler
A:It may be possible that he is correct, depending on your geography, climate and local construction standards; but I cannot imagine that the cost would be a substantial amount. In our area and most warm climates across the country the a/h units are up in the trusses – most if not all our plans utilize the truss storage space above the garages for this however, it may be possible that your local building standards do not match this construction technique; so your builder may be correct, however the mechanical space in the trusses is no more than a few modified trusses and some sheets of plywood and all the same mechanical equipment would go in there so I do not see any need for a substantial increase in price. I hope this helps.
Q:Where does the air handler go? Where is the hot water heater?
A:Hello - The A/C units are in the area that is outside the garage, on the right hand side just outside the man door in that area and the a/h units are located up in the trusses in the garage.
Thank you,
